GAS PRICES

If you want to pay less than the state average for a gallon of gasoline, Killeen is a good place to go.

Of the five cheapest spots in the city, all of them offered a gallon of gas for less than the Texas $2.17 average as of noon Saturday, according to GasBuddy.com.

The Walmart Neighborhood Market at 3801 E. Stan Schlueter Loop had gas for $1.94 a gallon.

Valero at 3900 Trimmier Road had the next lowest price in Killeen at $1.99 a gallon. The Stripes at 2200 E. Stan Schlueter Loop had gas for $2.09 a gallon, as did the CEFCO at 4803 W. Trimmier Road. The Chevron at 4302 E. Stan Schlueter Loop was selling a gallon for $2.15 a gallon.

In Copperas Cove on Saturday, the H-E-B, Murphy USA, 7-Eleven and Exxon gas stations on East Business U.S. Highway 190 all had gas at $1.99 a gallon. The Valero at 1102 S. Farm-to-Market 116 had gas for that price as well.

The Sam’s Club at 600 W. Central Texas Expressway in Harker Heights had the cheapest price in the area: $1.91 a gallon. The Walmart at 960 E. Farm-to-Market 2410 and Murphy USA at 2010 Heights Drive in Harker Heights both had gas for $1.94 a gallon.

Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in Midland were paying the most on average per gallon at $2.49, while drivers in San Antonio were paying the least at $2.06 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded was $2.43, which was 2 cents less than this day last week and 17 cents more than the price per gallon at this same time last year, according to AAA spokesman Daniel Armbruster.

According to market analysts, drivers can expect pump prices to continue to drop heading into the end of the year as supply strengthens and gasoline demand weakens, Armbruster said. Every metropolitan area surveyed across Texas saw gas price averages decrease over the last week.

“Eight million Texans will begin to hit the road this week for the holidays — the most ever on record,” said Armbruster. “At 11 cents more per gallon, on average, than the same time last year, pump prices don’t seem to be a deterrent for today’s travelers. Drivers can download the AAA mobile app for free to find the cheapest gas near them.”
