Another project from the Killeen Independent School District’s Strategic Facility Plan is on the board of trustees’ agenda for their Tuesday night meeting.

The guaranteed maximum price for an agriculture science facility will be presented to the board. On the latest Strategic Facility Plan, the cost for the project has been listed as “TBD” — to be determined.

The project will be funded through the district’s existing strategic facility budget.

With the facility set to open for the 2018-2019 school year, construction should begin soon.

The KISD board will receive an update from the bond steering committee meetings that have taken place Nov. 2 and Nov. 9.

The consent agenda for the meeting contains nearly 20 items, most of them discussed at the KISD board’s workshop Oct. 24.

A number of changes to district policies to comply with changes to legislation passed by the Texas Legislature earlier this year will be approved as part of that single vote.

The consent agenda includes the selection of consultants for roofing, and heating and air conditioning projects as part of the lifecycle program for equipment replacement and repairs to school buildings.

Other items on the consent agenda include approving the architects, geotechnical engineers and materials testing engineers which will handle construction on a new elementary school, slated to cost over $37 million, and a new middle school costing $54 million.

Both schools will be funded through the district’s existing strategic facility budget.

Other items on Tuesday’s agenda include new course requests and the proposed district calendar, both for the 2018-2019 school year.

The Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) rating report will be presented, with a public hearing allowing comments on the report.

FIRST ensures that Texas public schools are held accountable for the quality of their financial management practices and that they improve those practices, according to the Texas Education Agency website.

The preliminary FIRST report, presented at the board’s Sept. 28 workshop, indicated KISD had a rating of 100 out of 100.

The KISD board meeting begins at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. The board will immediately move into closed session to discuss the sale of the former Fairway Middle School and the former Sallie Mae complex. Votes to approve the sales will take place in open session.

The board will reconvene the meeting at 6 p.m. at the district’s administrative office, 200 N. W.S. Young Drive.
