The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 marks when the Armistice ending World War 1 was signed.  This led to the creation of Armistice Day, later renamed Veterans Day.

At 11 a.m. today VFW Post 9191 will kick off a parade to honor all veterans this year with a Korean War vet theme.  The parade starts at the intersection of Avenue D and College Street.

According to Johnnie Wimes, the post’s judge advocate, about 2,500 people are expected to participate in the parade .  There will be floats, marching bands, motorcycles, Shriners with go-carts, Cub Scouts, and more involved in the route.

Afterward, the post will host a luncheon at 1 p.m., open to the public.  The post is located at 3306 Zephyr Road.

“We’re honoring all veterans.” Wines said.  “We do this every year.
